The Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month faculty position to begin in August 2018. POSITION: Music Theorist to teach music theory/aural skills courses within the undergraduate core. Additional teaching assignments may include orchestration, composition, upper level analysis, and other courses related to the candidate’s interest and background. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue an active research agenda and participate fully in the responsibilities of faculty membership including curriculum development, student advisement, and service activities. RANK AND SALARY: Instructor or Assistant Professor. Salary commensurate with experience and educational preparation. REQUIREMENTS: An excellent record as a teacher/scholar and evidence of successful, college-level teaching experience. A minimum of two years of teaching experience in the undergraduate core as the instructor of record. A master’s degree in music theory or composition is required. The candidate is also required to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education, mentoring, and current pedagogical practices. A doctoral degree in music theory or composition completed by August 15, 2018, is required for appointment to the tenure track. Other applicants will be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor.
